Before The Throne

“’Absolute futility,’ says the Teacher, ‘Absolute futility. Everything is futile.’” Ecclesiastes 1:2

We all spend our lives searching for purpose and value. We enter into the rat race in hopes of securing a promotion or any other higher status. We deliver the wages of our toils to procure a larger residence or more luxurious cars. We sacrifice our hours to the idol of “more.” But at the end of the day, none of this provides us a meaningful sense of worth.

The only way that we as people are going to maximize the time we have on Earth is by spending time engaging with the presence of God. See, the world wants us to believe that a moment is valuable only if it is providing pleasure or monetary value. But in reality, every moment is valuable because GOD IS THERE. The moment you wake up in the morning, you are awaking into a moment of immense value, because God is there. The moment you open the door of your home after a straining day of work, you are opening the door to a valuable moment, because God is there. Right now, as you are reading this, you are living in an intensely valuable moment with God. But how do we engage with God and get the most out of our time with Him?

Firstly, we have to remove all the barriers that may stop us from engaging with God in any moment. That means we have to live with NO SECRETS. Often times, we attempt to hide the doubts, fears, sins, or temptations we are struggling with from God in our prayer life. If we do, then we are trying to approach God through the barriers of our own weaknesses. Before we can engage with God in every moment, let’s take some time to clear out our heart and make room for God.

Check with your doctor before you eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you are taking overnight delivery cialis this product. Secondly, we have to be willing to be vulnerable with God. Far too frequently, we approach God with a fake version of ourselves. It is a pretty and polished version of the person we wish we were. We try to act strong and put on a show that we have it all together. But we forget that God does not want a perfect people—God wants a broken people. What good is it for the Great Physician to have a hospital full of the perfect? God wants us to bring Him into our brokenness, hurt, weakness, and sin, so that He can begin the process of healing.

What’s more is that God does not ask us to do something He Himself is unwilling to do. God asks us to be wiling to be vulnerable to Him, and He shows us what that looks like by being vulnerable with us. One of the most beautiful examples comes from God’s poem to Israel in Ezekiel 16. In this passage, God sees this naked and abandoned woman (Israel) and is moved by compassion. He removes His own garment to cover her, being willing to uncover Himself to cover her. God was willing to be vulnerable for the sake of Israel. This is pretty consistent throughout the Bible. God is willing to open Himself up to heartbreak and rejection in order to find wholeness with His people. If God is willing to be vulnerable to connect with us, we need to be willing to do the same.

Once we remove the barriers in our heart and are willing to open ourselves up to God, we have the chance to engage with God in every moment of every day. Take time every moment to find God and engage with Him. Share with Him in every smile, laugh, and joy. Experience every heartbreak, tear, and hurt in His presence. Whatever you do, do not do it alone.
