If a man dies, will he live again?

Job, in great suffering, asked the above question. Some 2,000 years later, a babe was born in Bethlehem, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. The child grew into manhood, preached to the poor, healed the sick, the lame, and the blind. And just prior to raising Lazarus from the dead, He answered Job’s question. He said, “I am the resurrection and the life, he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live” (John 11:25).

An amazing thing to me is why Job asked the question in the first place! No one before Jesus knew of the doctrine of immortality, yet, everyone longed for, and sought after it. How could people long for something when they didn’t even know it existed? Where did the idea come from? Do dogs, cats, monkeys and chimpanzees long for life after death? Do they do anything in their existence to try and secure eternal life?

The point is, why is it that man, and only man, of all the creatures on this earth, long for life after death? Abut 70 years ago, a new civilization was discovered. These people had never seen a preacher, had never seen a Bible, and had never been visited by a missionary. Yet, they had a religion that worshipped a supreme being who promised eternal life! From where did they get the idea of immortality?
