1)    We have likely read Jn. 8:44 many, many times, but do we really know what this verse says?
2)    Have we ever noticed how many times Jesus spoke about the devils’ lack of truthfulness in Jn. 8:44?
3)    If you are looking at this verse, you may want to underline five distinct statements.
a)    In the middle of verse 44 we find the first key statement:  “Standeth not in the truth.”
b)     “There is no truth in him.”
c)    Satan speaks lies and this is his natural way to deal with others.
d)    The fourth statement of Satan’s untruthfulness is found in the word “liar.”
e)    Then Jesus said the devil is the “father of lies.
4)    The Lord said Satan “stands” in the realm of unrighteousness instead of truth.
5)    Some fathers may be a lot like the devil, but they do not need to “stand” (live) in this way.
6)    1 Cor. 16:13 says “stand fast in the faith.”
a)    Jn. 8:31-32 – READ
b)    “Abiding in the word” is the same as “standing fast in the faith.”
c)    When we abide or stand fast in the word (truth), we will be people of truth.
7)    Imagine the joy in having a father who is truthful.

1)    In Lk. 11:24 Jesus spoke of a demon leaving a man and wanting a new home.

2)    Lying is Satan’s normal behavior.
3)    We should seek to make righteousness our natural behavior.

SATAN IS A “FATHER” WHO IS A LIAR.

1)    People can be described in a lot of different ways.
a)    Some fathers eventually merit descriptions that are not commendable.
b)    Most are familiar with the expression “deadbeat dead.”
c)    Some have actually experienced the “absent father” or a “cold father.”
2)    I have heard dads referred to as crack heads, addicts, drunks, boozers, and some other awful things.
3)    Fathers are by no means perfect – Rom. 3:10, 23.
a)    We can be the father or facilitator of chaos.
b)    We can be the father or facilitator of hate, anger, and strife.
c)    We can be a “father” (facilitator) of righteousness.
4)    Whether we are a father or not, our most important task is to live as the Bible describes.

5)    What are we seeking to be known for if we are also a father?
