Whosoever trangresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God

One of the most powerful statements of the entire Bible is found in 2 John 9: “Whosoever trangresseth and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God…….”

Make no mistake about this, anyone who will not cling to and walk according to the divinely inspired word of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17) will be in transgression of that law. God’s word, the Bible, is the rule of law that guides us and when rejected in whole or in part, John tells us that we forfeit our relationship with God and he is not with us. At this moment I can think of nothing that would make this life more miserable than to be walking this pathway without hope and without God (Heb. 6:18-19, Eph. 2:12).

Today we live in a time of chaos, a time in which our nation is being engulfed in civil and political unrest. Civil disorders are occurring almost daily and the crime rate is staggering. America is filled with all manner of unrighteousness, wickedness and deceit. The thoughts and imaginations of great masses of people seem to be filled with evil. Who would have thought a few years ago that the time would come when not only would homosexuality and lesbianism be accepted but same sex marriage would accepted and endorsed by the people of this nation. We can be thankful that there is still a remnant of people in this country who stand firm and fast on the truth of God’s word and have not allowed their hearts to be corrupted. America is the greatest nation on the face of this earth but America has some monumental problems. We need to pray for our President, our Congress, our Supreme Court and the people of America. Despite the deliberate attacks being made on God and his word, he still reigns, he still rules and will forever. The atheist, the scoffer can belittle him and cry out against the teachings of his word, the foolish man can say in his heart that there is no God and therefore the Bible is useless, vain and empty, people in large numbers can pervert his teachings but none of them will prevail in the end (Psalms 119:113-119, Psalms 14:1, Gal. 1:6-9, 2 Thess. 2:7-12, 2 Thess. 1:7-10). The truth of God endures forever. What he promises, he will do (Psalms 117:1-2, Heb. 6:17-18, Deut. 11:26-28). Our Lord tells us that we shall know the truth and the truth shall make us free (John8:32). Then in John 17:17 he tells us that God’s word is the truth. The truth is hidden to many people because they have chosen to willfully blind themselves to the truth and have allowed the god of this world to blind their minds rather than let the beauty and glory of God’s word be a lamp unto their feet and a light unto their path (2 Cor. 4:3-4, Psalms 119:105, James 1:21).
