The Last Plague

I use to watch Youtube videos about spiders when I was younger. These videos made me scared of spiders. Everybody is afraid of something. Everybody should be afraid of Satan. Satan makes us doubt God. But God protects us when we obey.

That’s what God did to Israel in the last plague. God will always protect us from evil when we trust and obey.

Exodus 11 introduces us to the last plague God sent on Egypt and Pharaoh. Pharaoh was the king of Egypt and thinks he is a god. Israel is enslaved in Egypt. God wants Israel to come out of Egypt so they can bless God and worship God. Pharaoh does not want people to worship God; he wants them to worship him. So, God sends 10 plagues on Egypt to make Pharaoh let Israel go. Up until chapter 10, we have seen nine plagues. Chapter 11 introduces the last plague. After this, Pharaoh will let Israel go.

#1 – GOD BLESSES ISRAEL – Exodus 11:1-3:

Let us read this passage and discuss how God blesses Israel.

In verse 1, we see that this is the last plague. God has already sent hail, lice, frogs, turned water to blood. But Pharaoh has not let Israel go.

Verse 2 shows us God blesses Israel through the Egyptians. Egypt is the enemy of Israel but God blesses Israel from the Egyptians.

Verse 3 shows us that God makes the Egyptians respect Moses.

#2 – GOD PROTECTS ISRAEL – 11:4-8:

In verses 1-3, we saw where God blesses Israel. In this paragraph, we see that God protects Israel.

Notice in verses 4-5 that God kills the firstborn of Pharaoh, even to the firstborn of the female servant and the firstborn of the animals.

God had warned Pharaoh before anything was done that He would kill Pharaoh’s firstborn if Pharaoh did not listen to God (4:22-23). God warned Pharaoh but Pharaoh refused to listen and obey through nine plagues. Now, Pharaoh will pay the price.

Verse 6 tells us that this type of event had never happened before. It was so bad, it had never happened before. One day, God will destroy the world, which has never happened before. Will we listen to God and be prepared? Or will we be like Pharaoh and refuse to obey?

God has been protecting Israel from the plagues already. Now, God will protect Israel from the death of the firstborn if Israel obeys, killing the Lamb and sprinkling blood on the doorposts.

#3 – PHARAOH DOES NOT OBEY – 11:9-10:

Finally, we see in this text, as Pharaoh did before – he does not listen or obey God.

In verse 9, we see Pharaoh does not heed Moses and Aaron, God’s prophets. Some people simply refuse to obey God (cf. Rev. 22:11).

We see the death of the firstborn in Exo. 12:29-32.

So, once again, we see that God always protects us from the evil when we trust and obey.
