How to save souls

Sermon on saving souls

1)    When we hear someone talking a “nap,” we typically think of someone getting a little rest.
2)    NAP also has another meaning – it stands for the National Atheist Party.
3)    NAP wants to spread its ideas and false theories.
4)    If we are the people of God, we also need to be very, very active in spreading the message of Christ.
5)    A study of the New Testament shows that this is God’s will for His people today.
a)    In Mt. 4:19 Jesus said, “I will make you fishers of men.”
b)    We also read about being a “fisher of men” in Mk. 1:178 and Lk. 5:10.
6)    Throughout the Lord’s life we see a strong emphasis on evangelism.
7)    In Lk. 19:10 the Bible says Jesus came to “seek and save that which was lost.”
8)    One of the ways the Bible tells people they are lost is through the word “darkness.”
a)    Darkness is used about fifty times in the New Testament and I am going to highlight some of these times.
b)    In Mt. 4:16 we have a prophecy from Isaiah; this man of God said people “sat in darkness.”
9)    Two chapters later – Mt. 6:23 – Jesus spoke about being “full of darkness.”
10)    The end of this verse speaks about “great darkness.”
11)    In Jn. 3:19 Jesus said people “love” the darkness.
12)    Jn. 8:12 talks about “walking” or “living” in darkness.
13)    In Jn. 12:35 Jesus said the darkness can “overtake” people.
a)    Sin is something that overtakes (seizes people).

14)    People are in the darkness of sin and they need to be led out.
15)    Acts 26:18 – READ

ARE WE TRYING TO FIND THOSE WHO ARE IN THE DARKNESS OF SIN AND HELP THEM FIND THE LIGHT?

1)    When we think about those who have been seized by sin, we find basically 5 categories of people.
2)    The category nearest to us may be our relatives.
3)    In addition to relatives most have at least a few friends.
a)    In Mt. 10:32-33 Jesus spoke about “confessing” and “denying” Him before others.
b)    Do people on places like Facebook know we are a Christian, or do we seem like a person from the world?
4)    Sharing with people the fact that we are Christians also needs to include our neighbors.
5)    Do our coworkers know about our faith?
6)    The fifth group is a little more difficult to work with; this group consists of strangers.
a)    In Mk. 16:15 Jesus said “Go.”  Go into the entire world and teach my word.
b)    Col. 1:23 says the gospel was “preached in all creation under heaven.”
c)    If Christians were successful at evangelism in the first century, we can succeed today.
2)    Are we someone who has become a Christian?
3)    If we have been immersed into Christ for the forgiveness of our sins, are we committed to telling others?
4)    How long has it been since we have tried to share the good news of salvation with another person?
