Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever

We live in an ever changing world. During the few years of our lives, we have witnessed tremendous changes in every walk of life. Means of transportation, household tasks, the field of medicine and the arena of communication are but samples of the changes that have taken place during our lifetime. Amid all this change, we should be, yea must be, impressed with the fact that human beings have not changed that much since the beginning of time. Sure, we recognize that perhaps appearance, clothing, bodily features have changed somewhat over the years but we are confronted each day by so many things that are the same today as they were thousands of years ago. There still exists the same greed that was seen in Lot (Genesis 13). There is still the love of preeminence that was in Diotrephes (3 John 9). The love of money spoken of by Paul in 1 Timothy 6:9-10 is alive and well today. We still need encouragement because of weaknesses (Galatians 6:1-2, Hebrews 3:13). There still exists a great need for sympathy because of sorrow that often afflicts the human frame (Romans 12:15). There is still the need for guidance spoken of by Jeremiah (Jeremiah 10:23). Because of sickness, disease and even death, hope is much needed (Hebrews6:19). Because of sin, there is still the need for salvation (Romans 3:23).

Having said all this, we need to turn our attention to what the writer of Hebrews says about Jesus Christ. Make no mistake here, Jesus has not changed nor will he ever change in his attitude toward error and false teaching. Every departure from God’s way was denounced by Jesus while he was on this earth (Matthew 15:9). His life was governed by “It is written” (Matthew 4:4-10). Rest assured, that will be his attitude in the great judgment (Matthew 7:21-23). The sects of his day were condemned (Matthew 15:13, Matthew 23). Because he has not changed nor will he change his attitude toward the addition, subtraction or substituting for his word (2 John 9, Gal 1:6-9), those who dare to do so will stand condemned one day.
