The 10/30 Window

In missiological terms, “10/40” refers to the bands 100 latitude north and the 400 latitude north that runs around the globe. Between these two imaginary lines lies a very large group of unreached peoples for Jesus Christ. Every community has people who have not really submitted themselves to Jesus Christ in obedience to the Gospel. But in this area, there are millions of Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists. Thus, the “10/40” window.

Mindy Belz in World magazine recently (January 14, 2012) wrote about the “10/30” window (pg. 30). Brought to her attention by the Global Youth and Family Ministries, this term refers to the 2.4 billion in the world who are between the ages of 10 and 30. Since the year 2010, according to Belz, the majority of the world’s population is now under 25 years old.

There are three factors that seem to tie together many in this 10/30 window, regardless of which country they inhabit. First, they know how to use media, such as Facebook or YouTube. Secondly, they can use technology. How much do we know right now coming out of Syria because of cell phones? Third, they speak English.
