Sermon text for “who can be saved?”: Mt. 19:23-25

WE WANT TO ANSWER THE QUESTION “WHO CAN BE SAVED?” FROM THE BOOK OF ACTS.
1) We are going to start with Acts 1 and go all the way through Acts 28.
2) Our first citation comes from the second chapter of Acts.
3) Acts 2:36– READ
a) There are going to be some people in heaven who were involved with murder.
b) Verse 38 says the people Peter spoke to could receive the “forgiveness of sins.”
4) The subject of murder comes up once again in the next chapter.
5) Peter spoke on another occasion and said the things described in Acts 3:14-15 – READ
6) Peter knew these people had committed a terrible deed; he also knew this additional fact.
a) Verse 17 – READ
b) God is in the business of saving ignorant people.
7) God will not save people by ignorance alone – not knowing the gospel is not a basis for salvation.
8) When someone does not understand the truth, God wants them to hear and understand the message.
9) Some grow up on a Christian home and they are never really ignorant of the gospel.
10) Others do not learn about the truth until they are an adult or they are in their final years.
a) Acts 5:14 –READ
b) In the first century “multitudes” became Christians.
c) Places like Acts 5:14 show that heaven is certainly going to have plenty of people.
11) His success is seen here in that both genders are included: “men and women.”
a) Verse 15 introduces us to another point related to our question – READ
b) Heaven is not just for healthy people.
c) Whether we are sick or healthy, we can be saved.

18) When we think about “who can be saved,” this example tells important people can be saved.
a) Acts 10 – the story of Cornelius says “good” people can be in heaven.
b) No one is saved by their own goodness; good people are usually not far from the kingdom of God.
c) Heaven is going to be filled with people who lived some very fine lives.
19) Acts 13:12.
20) Acts 16:15- business people.
21) Acts 17:23 – idol worships (compare verse 34).
22) In the next chapter – Acts 18 – the 8th verse tells us “many of the Corinthians” became Christians.
a) Corinth was “sin city.”
b) The kinds of people described in Acts still exist in our world today.
